WHO WE ARE
God's Calling Community Church was founded with a purpose.
A simple but powerful mission: to introduce people to Jesus Christ, help them grow in their faith, and build a community where everyone feels seen, known, and welcomed.
We are a multigenerational church in the heart of Johnstown, PA — made up of people from all walks of life, united by one thing: a desire to follow Jesus together. Our congregation is as diverse as the community we call home, and that's something we cherish deeply.
No matter your background, your story, or where you are in your journey of faith, you have a place here. We don't claim to have all the answers — but we do believe in the One who does. And we would be honored to walk this journey with you.

Scripture
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God — our guide for faith, life, and truth. We approach it with reverence, curiosity, and an open heart.

We believe the church is most alive when it serves. We are called to love our neighbors, care for the vulnerable, and be the hands and feet of Christ.
Salvation by Grace
We believe salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works, but by God's grace extended to every person who believes.

LEADERSHIP
Meet Our Pastors
Pastor Nila Cogan
Lead Pastor · Ordained 2009
Pastor Nila brings warmth, authenticity, and a genuine love for people to every aspect of ministry. Married to Larry and mother of four, she tends a farm in the Friedens area and has a background in floristry and greenhouse work. Her greatest joys are leading worship, visiting those who need encouragement, and sharing the hope found in Scripture.
Pastor Jeffrey L. Bassette
Co-Pastor · Ordained 2009
A retired U.S. Army Engineer Officer with 20 years of service, Pastor Jeff brings discipline, wisdom, and a servant's heart to his ministry. After completing seminary in Gettysburg, PA, he served in Lutheran and Episcopal congregations and as a chaplain before joining God's Calling Community Church. He resides in Hollsopple, PA with his wife Jan and son Josiah.
Pastor Jenny Barnes-McCord
Co-Pastor · Ordained 2008
Rev. Jenny Barnes-McCord is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Before entering ministry, she spent many years working in higher education.
She is passionate about teaching, preaching, and leading Bible studies, with a special love for helping people grow in their faith. Rev. Jenny enjoys working with children and youth, believing that strong Christian families are essential to a thriving church. She also deeply values older generations, recognizing them as the foundation of the church community.
Music has long been an important part of her life and ministry. In addition to leading worship in various churches, she enjoys playing in a small jazz, blues, and oldies band with her husband and daughter.
Rev. Jenny is the proud mother of three adult children and grandmother of nine grandchildren. Her mission is to encourage and strengthen others to remain faithful as we await the second coming of Christ.
